Audience of One

Introduction:

A.      Last week we focused on magnifying God through our weaknesses. 1 Cor. 1:26-31

B.     This week, we focus on the purpose of our service to God: to magnify and rejoice in His name, and to please Him through our thoughts, words, and actions… in everything!

Discussion:

I.         Everything I Do I Do It For God

A.      Why is it we do what we do?

1.      To gain recognition or compliments?

2.      To make or win over friends?

3.      To uphold a reputation or simply “look good” before others?

4.      In these instances our main audience is men.

B.      Is pleasing men wrong?

1.      No. cp. 1 Cor. 10:31-33; Rom. 15:1-2

2.      Our focus, however, is to ultimately do everything to please our God.

3.      With this motivation, we will actually “please men” in a manner that ultimately pleases God.

II.       From Closet to Street Corner

A.      No Better Example Than Jesus

1.      He perfectly exampled a life where everything He did was with God in mind.

2.      Practically:

                                    a.      Fear no man (Matt. 10:24-31)

                                    b.      Live and teach a life in full service to God (Matt. 6:5-6).

                                    c.      Matthew 14:22-23

B.      Our worship (pray and praise) is to Him.

1.      We worship none other than Him. Matt. 4:10

2.      We joyfully teach and admonish one another to give thanks to and exalt in Him alone. Eph. 5:19

C.      Our service is to God. 1 Cor. 6:20

1.      We work for Him… no matter who we work for. Eph. 6:5-7

2.      We serve Him when no one is looking.

3.      And, when we serve others “as unto the Lord” God blesses us beyond measure. cp. Eph. 6:8; 1 Pet. 3:1-2
