Dying To Live

Introduction:

A.      We All Want To Live

1.      We go to great lengths to enhance and extend our lives.

2.      But, which life is most important to us?

a.     This (earthly) life, or …

b.     Eternity?

Answering this question not only reveals your beliefs but directs your lifestyle.

Discussion:

I.         The World … How the world sacrifices their soul to live for the flesh.

A.      Living for the Here and Now

1.      “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die.” Isaiah 22:13

2.      This is our mantra if …

a.      We do not truly believe in the resurrection leading to eternal life. 1 Corinthians 15:32

b.      Or, that this world is more valuable to us than eternal life.

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?  For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDSMatthew 16:26–27 (NASB95)

II.       The Christ … He sacrificed his life so the world could enjoy the riches of eternity.

A.      Amazing Love!

1.       God so loved the world that He sent Jesus as the means for us to live. John 3:16

2.       This type of sacrificial love meant that Jesus had to deny Himself. Matt. 26:39

III.      The Saved … How God’s people put their temporary (fleshly) life to death in favor of eternity.

A.      Walking in His Footsteps

1.       The mind Christians must have is: Christ! Phil. 2:5-8

2.       For this reason we work out our salvation by putting to death the fleshly man within us. Phil. 3:7-11 (Gal. 2:20)

Conclusion:

A.      The world does everything it can to live this life but will face eternal “death.”

B.     But our Savior came to die so that we could live.

C.     Those who want salvation will follow Jesus, which leads to eternal life. Rom. 6:3-11
