Getting Involved
Theme: The work of the Lord's church
Acts 2:42-47

Introduction:

A.      It is easy to lose focus on what the “work of the church” entails.

1.      We understand – biblically – that the Lord’s church is to see the lost and edify the saved.

2.      Too often, however, much of our time and energy is spent on “the saved”, and for many, “worship services.”

3.      While the latter is not to be minimized the former must be maximized.

Let’s refocus our energy on getting more involved in the work of the church, which is well pleasing to our God.

Discussion:

I.         Seeking the Lost

A.      Jesus sought sinners...because sinners need salvation. Lk. 19:10; Lk. 5:32

B.     So important is this endeavor Jesus emphasized it to His apostles. Matt. 28:18-20

C.     The work is no different today.

II.       Edifying the Saved

A.      This is the foundation of fellowship among the saved. Cp. Eph. 4:11-12

B.     This fellowship is what brought about their edification for one another.

C.     We come together for the purpose of edification.

III.      Getting Involved

A.      Spend time among the lost: Let them know you genuinely care for them. Cp. 1 Cor. 5:9-10

B.     Participate among the groups we have toward this endeavor: Bible study inviters/conductors, etc.

C.     Take advantage of opportunities to fellowship with one another throughout the week. Cp. 2 Tim. 2:2; Heb. 10:24-25

IV.    Other Areas of Service

A.      Classroom teachers/helpers.

B.     Greet visitors (handout visitor cards, bulletins, etc.).

C.     Prayer groups

D.     Letters, phone calls, visit visitors.

Conclusion:

Whatever you do … Get involved in the work of the Lord’s church.
