Isaiah 40

I.         The Incomparable Greatness of God!

A.      God is infinitely greater and more glorious than His impressive creation! (Isaiah 40:12-14; Revelation 4:11)

1.      The oceans and the seas:  Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand? (Isaiah 40:12)

2.      The heavens:  And who has marked off the heavens by the span? (Isaiah 40:12)

3.      The dust of the earth:  And who has calculated the dust of the earth by the measure? (Isaiah 40:12)

4.      The mountains:  And who has weighed the mountains in a balance? (Isaiah 40:12)

5.      The hills:  And who has weighed the hills in a pair of scales? (Isaiah 40:12)

B.     God is greater than and infinitely more powerful than any nation in history! (Isaiah 40:15-17)

C.     God is infinitely greater than, wiser than and more powerful than any idols.  (Isaiah 40:18-21; Ephesians 5:5)

D.     God is infinitely greater than, wiser than and more powerful than any earthly king. (Isaiah 40:22-25)

E.     God offers us the greatest assurance and care possible! (Isaiah 40:26-31)

II.       What Lessons can we learn?

A.      God knows your needs intimately.

B.     He cares about you deeply.

C.     He will provide for your every need.

D.     His being/character is His bond.

E.     We have no reason to live with worry or doubt.

III.      What is our response to a God of such incomparable greatness?

A.      We should love him with all our heart!

B.     We should trust Him completely!

C.     We should obey His word without question!

Conclusion:

How do we become a servant of such a great and holy God?

1.      Believe His word and His Son Jesus Christ.

2.      Repent of your sins.

3.      Openly profess your faith in Him.

4.      Be immersed in water for forgiveness.

5.      Serve our great God with great faithfulness.
