The Goodness of the Law of Moses

1)  The Law of Moses was needed.

·         Genesis 6:5-7, 11, 12 – Earth filled with violence

·         Jeremiah 10:23,24 – Man’s way is not in himself

Man needed guidance.  Left to his own devices, man continually did evil in the sight of God.

2)  The Law of Moses was holy and a priviledge.

·         Deut. 4:5-8 – It was a priviledge that taught the Jews to be wise and understanding

·         Romans 3:1-2 – It was the oracles of God

·         Psalm 19:7-11 – Described as perfect, sure, right, and pure

·         Psalm 119:137-144 – The testimonies are righteous

·         Romans 7:7-13 – It was holy, and provided knowledge of sin

3)  The Law of Moses identified righteous and sinful behavior.

·       Romans 3:20 – Provided knowledge of sin

·       Psalm 94:8-13 – Blessed were those taught of the law

·       Proverbs 6:20-24 – It guided the Jews to do right

·       Deut. 6:20-25 – careful observation led to righteousness

4)  What was the purpose of the Law of Moses?

·         Gal. 3:15-29

o        Vs 18 – inheritance was promised, so it can’t be earned

o        Vs 21 – It did not provide salvation

o        Vs 22,23 – It shut up all under sin until the blessing came through Christ

o        Vs 24 – It was a tutor that led to Christ

o        Vs 26-29 – we are heirs according to the promise

The Law of Moses prepared the Jews for the fulfillment of Abraham’s final promise, which was salvation through Christ.

5)  The Law of Moses has been fulfilled.

·         Gal. 3:25

·         Mt. 5:17

·         Rom. 8:1-4
