Congregational Meeting
May 29, 2005

  1. Introduction: Jimmy Frasier

We are getting older and the younger members at this congregation are the ones that will be the leaders of this work in a numbers of years, therefore it is of the utmost importance to ground them in the truth and prepare them as best we can for their leadership in the coming years. We think that the vacation bible school is a very good learning method, and we are preparing for this on the 20th of June thru the 24th.

  1. Vacation Bible School: Steve Garrett
  1. History -- part of elder's long-term plan announced last fall. Mark Jones and Steve Garrett selected to implement and oversee.

  2. General -- Dates June 20-24; Time 7:00-8:15 p.m.; Classes for all ages (including adult class).

  3. Theme -- "We Believe"
Mon -- We Believe In God
Tues -- We Believe God Created the Universe
Wed -- We Believe the Bible is God's Word
Thurs -- We Believe Jesus is the Son of God
Fri -- The Alternatives If We Don't Believe

  4. Teachers -- Many thanks to our dedicated teachers, assistant teachers and many helpers putting VBS together.  Thanks to our guest speaker, Greg Gwin from Columbia who is teaching the adult VBS class.

  5. Promotion -- we are promoting the VBS with newspaper advertising, post card flyers to pass out and mail; sign. The most important promotion is when individual members invite their family and friends. Please invite your neighbors, children, grandchildren.

  6. Eternal Implications -- what we are doing has eternal implications for ourselves and those we invite. Very important lessons dealing with the foundations of our faith.

  1. Guest Packet: Darrell Tackett
  1. I received information from brother Steve Garrett and after meeting with him and then Edwin, and then the elders, have developed a new Guest Packet.  It will consist of a brochure with a pocket, which will give some information on our Sunday and Wednesday Bible study and worship periods. There will be another brochure in the pocket of the first that will outline some of our congregational beliefs and list "Who We Are, Who is Jesus, etc." There will be a Bible tract in the pocket as well titled "The History of Man" that is one of the best Bible tracts that I have read on the plan of salvation and how to become a Christian.  There will also be a new guest card that will have space for more information than the previous card.  We will also include a wallet card on the Daily Devotional and one inviting others to our worship services.  The new packet will have a lot of information!

  2. To make it work (ensure that guests complete the guest cards) I will be recruiting two couples for a month to greet and welcome all visitors and give them a Guest Packet.   They will ask our guests to complete a new guest card and answer any questions such as where class rooms are located.  Late comers will be given a packet by the assigned usher.

  3. I'm excited about the new packets because they can (and will) be used as a stand alone evangelism tool.  We can hand these packets out to new comers and neighbors in our neighborhoods, friends, family, etc.  I have ordered 1000 of each of the materials so we will be able to put together 1000 packets.  Most of the printing is being done at a printer in Murfreesboro at a great price!  I believe it will be here prior to our VBS so we will have some additional information and material for guests.

  1. Fall Focus: Edwin Crozier

Group Studies: We will set up weekly group studies for the Fall Focus. Anyone interested in hosting a group study or leading the group study, please see Edwin.

  1. Summer Singing Series: Edwin Crozier

Each Sunday night in the summer, we will conduct a singing following the evening service at someone's house. If you would like to host one of the singings, please sign up on the sheet in the foyer next to the door.

  1. Invitation Board: Edwin Crozier

We need to increase our efforts to let people in the community know about this congregation. In order to help us visualize the work we are doing, a new bulletin board has been placed between the doors leading out of the foyer. Whenever you invite someone to one of our services or to call Dial-A-Devotion, please make a mark on the board so we can keep track of the number of invitations we are offering.

  1. Web Site: Edwin Crozier

If you are reading this report, you probably already know everything that was talked about regarding the web site. Let's remember what a great tool for evangelism and study the web site is, letting people know about the sermons and articles they can download for free.
