Sticking with It

If you are like me, you hit a wall with every commitment you ever make. A week or two at any task is easy. Moving beyond that means breaking the pull of other habits. I don’t know about you, but this happens for me even in our Fall Focus.

The first week is exciting and it is easy to get out my book and my Bible and do my study with my family every day. Going to the group study is fun. The second week becomes a duty. We miss a couple days of reading but make them up and then bundle up in the car because we have to go to the group study. By the third week, it is easy to neglect the daily study and miss the small group study. This week we will cross the halfway point for our Fall Focus and it could be very easy to start to back off, slow down or even quit completely. Don’t let that happen to you.

Instead, renew your commitment to grow throughout our Focus. Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” The best possible use of your time this month is to continue to take time each weekday to read our Walks with God book and examine the Bible passages and principles contained therein, discuss the questions with your family and then meet with your brethren to pump each other up during the group discussions. Then attend all the assemblies to hear all of the lessons about God. Just consider the remaining lessons in our Focus:

Today:

Walking with God

Loving God

Next Sunday:

      Waiting on God

      Relying on God

Final Sunday:

      Confessing God

Praising God—A Lesson in Scripture Reading, Prayer, and Song

According to Genesis 5:24, Enoch walked with God. Because he did, he did not die with the rest of mankind, but was simply taken. According to Genesis 6:9, Noah walked with God and was saved from the flood. Granted, God has not promised that everyone who ever walks with Him will miss out on death, nor are we awaiting a flood from which we need protection. However, both demonstrate that walking with God frees us from God’s wrath and judgment. Our study this month is supremely important. All of our lives should be about our relationship with God.

So, let’s keep up our commitment. Let’s stick with it and continue our Walks with God.
