Exploring Islam and Christianity

“We’re all going to the same place, we’re just taking different ways to get there.” How many times have I heard that line to defend the denominational division plaguing us? I knew it was only a matter of time before such universal ecumenicalism would exceed the bounds of “Christianity” and include religions that don’t look to Jesus as the source of authority.

In fact, that time has come. Today, we are told that Christianity and Islam really are not that different. We are told that Islam follows the same God as Christianity. We are told their scriptures are not so different. We are also told their main prophets were similar.

Today, religious tolerance does not mean physically allowing others to live their beliefs and practice their religious worship without hindering them. It means acknowledging that we have no idea who is right or what is right so every religion can claim to be right and we shouldn’t claim one is wrong.

But can any of us really accept that mutually exclusive religions such as Islam and Christianity can both be right? Is there but one God and Mohammad was his prophet? Or is there one God in three person, Father, Son and Spirit, and Jesus was God in the flesh who died for our sins? These can’t both be right.

Today we begin a comparative exploration of Islam and Christianity. How do they compare? How do they differ? Which one should we live?

We hope you can make it back to hear the following exciting lessons:

Sunday 3pm:     Exploring the Bible and the Qur’an

Monday 7pm:     Examining Jesus and Muhammad

Tuesday 7pm:     Jehovah or Allah: There is One God

Wednesday 7pm:     Who is Your Savior?

To our guests, we appreciate your presence and hope you have been made to feel at home and respected even if you disagree with our conclusions. We would love to spend more time studying with you so we can help each other gain eternal life.

To our members, please, keep letting your friends know about this awesome opportunity to learn about the salvation that comes only through Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).

Andrew Roberts is highly prepared and well-studied on this issue. We are excited to have him with us. But most of all, we are excited that you are here to worship and learn with us.
