Final Week Of Our Fall Focus
Today begins the final week of our Fall
Focus: “Plugging
In: Devoted To Prayer.” What an exciting month it
has been.
I want to thank everyone who has
continued with the commitment to read, study and pray. Allow me to
encourage you—keep it up for this final week. If you have gotten
behind, don’t worry. Don’t throw the book away. There is
nothing in the Bible that said if you didn’t read all our
devotions in the five week period you’re lost. Just pick up
where you left off and keep studying. Or, start over, whichever
works best for you.
The real focus for us is not to read
the devotional book in time. The real focus is to learn about
prayer, to learn how to pray and to learn to pray.
Just as the disciples asked in Luke
11:1, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his
disciples.” We need to ask the Lord to teach us to pray. That is
our focus.
Don’t forget the dynamite blast of
prayer we have planned for next weekend.
On Friday, November 5, at 7:00 pm, we
will assemble to worship and praise God, learning about “Jesus:
Our Example in Prayer.” We will examine the prayer life of
Jesus to learn the model for our prayer lives.
On Saturday, November 6, at 7:00 pm, we
will assemble to worship the Lord and learn about “Jesus’
Example Prayer.” We will look at Matthew
6:9-13 and answer the question, “Can we pray what is
commonly called ‘The Lord’s Prayer’?”
On Sunday, November 7, during our Bible
class hour, instead of our usual classes, we will gather in the
auditorium to study “The
Dynamic Duo: Prayer and Bible Study.” We will learn the
importance of prayer for Bible study and the importance of Bible
study for prayer.
During our 10am worship hour, we will
focus on “The Habit of
Prayer,” taking what we have learned and applying it to our
lives as we move past this full focus on prayer.
Finally, during our 6pm worship time,
we finish out our Fall Focus with a bang. I am most excited about
this time of worship. We will gather to learn “The
Kinds of Prayer.” This will be a special lesson in
scripture, song and prayer. We will examine the three major kinds
of prayer—adoration, confession and supplication. Then we will
sing together songs corresponding with each kind of prayer.
Finally, we will be led in prayers that specifically focus on each
aspect of prayer.
This is an exciting week. Do not forget to let your
friends, family, neighbors and co-workers know about this weekend.
And do not forget to keep up your prayer commitment.
