Letting People Know

Our Fall Focus is a week away and I am excited. Believe me, we are going to have an awesome month. If you make the commitment right now to be at every service throughout October and the weekend meeting in November, you will learn a great deal about prayer.

But more than that, if you make the commitment right now to read a chapter every day from the book, “Plugging In: Devoted To Prayer,” you will grow tremendously. I am saying that not because what I have put in the book is all that tremendous. Rather, because I am convinced if we make the conscious effort to grow in prayer, we will grow tremendously. This work book and these sermons are simply a tool to help us devote ourselves to prayer and growth in it.

Remember though, this is not just about the Franklin Church of Christ. We want to use this Fall Focus to reach out to the community and draw in the lost.

Here is why this month is such a great way to evangelize. Those who are interested in learning about prayer will attend with us for five weeks. They will get a real picture of what is going on in the Franklin Church of Christ. It will not be just a flash in the pan visit and hope we can hook them. Rather, we will be able to get to know them and learn how we can help them spiritually.

Further, it is a great opportunity because we are hitting people with the gospel. This is not some kind of new-fangled, glitz and glamour entertainment blitz. We will be bringing people in for serious teaching. Additionally, our guests will not be coming for some esoteric over their heads sermons. They will be getting hard hitting lessons on one of the most practical aspects of Christianity—praying.

In addition to committing to being at the services and reading through the book, commit to inviting people. Pick up some of the cards and mail them to your friends. Pass them out at work or school. Let your family know.

My hope is that none of the invitation cards are left over to be thrown away. Take them with you to the store and give one to the cashier. Take them with you to the bank and give one to your teller. Walk through your neighborhood and hand them out to your neighbors. However you choose to do it, let people know about this month of prayer.

      Most importantly…pray.

What kind of month on prayer would this be if we entered it without praying about it and for it? Thank God for this opportunity. Praise God for prayer. Petition God to bless our efforts to cause growth within the congregation, both spiritually and numerically. But of greatest importance, pray that God be blessed and glorified by our work.
