About Us
The Franklin Church of Christ is a non-denominational
church whose mission is to do all things to the glory of God (Ephesians 3:21). Our membership is characterized as a group of people
encouraging one another on toward the goal of an eternal home in
Heaven with God (Philippians
3:12-14, II
Timothy 4:7-8, John 14:1-4). See also Sermons
on the Church.
The Beliefs of this Local Church
We believe in:
-
God. We believe God is the
Creator of all things (Genesis
1). We believe the deity of God includes the Father, the Son (Jesus
Christ), & the Holy Spirit (Matthew
28:19-20, II
Corinthians 13:14).
-
God's Kingdom. We believe God,
the Father, sent Jesus Christ, His Son, to save the
world. We believe that Jesus Christ grants citizenship in the Kingdom of
Heaven to those who are saved and remain faithful. And
we believe that
Jesus Christ is going to return one day to take them there to
live a life everlasting (John
3:16, Matthew 7:21, Philippians 3:17-21).
-
God's Word. We believe the
Bible is the inspired Word of God, and that it is our only
authority (II
Timothy 3:16-17). We believe that all who obey God's Word are
forgiven of their sins and
receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit, that is, salvation
by the grace of God, and are added to the
Lord's church, Christ's
body, under the authority of God (Acts
2:38; Mark 16:16; Acts 2: 47; Eph 1:22-23).
The Organization of this Local Church
The offices and roles recognized by this congregation
include:
-
Elders,
also known as bishops & overseers (Acts
14:23; 20:28, I Peter 5:2, I Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9)
-
Deacons,
which means "those who serve" (Philippians
1:1, I Timothy 3:8-13, Acts 6:1-6)
-
Evangelist,
who does not hold an office of authority, but rather serves to
preach the Word of God (Ephesians
4:11, II Timothy 4:1-4)
-
Saints,
also known as members of the body of Christ, perform the work of ministry (Ephesians
4:11-12, Romans 12:4-5)
The Worship of this Local Church
On every first day of the week (Sunday), we
assemble as a congregation to:
-
Sing (acapella) psalms, hymns, and
spiritual songs (Ephesians
5:19, Colossians 3:16)
-
Pray to God (Acts
2:42)
-
Partake of the Lord's Supper (Matthew
26:26-29, Acts 20:7, I Corinthians 11:23-26)
-
Contribute, as each individual member has
been prospered, to support the work of ministry (I
Corinthians 16:1-2, II Corinthians 9:6-11)
-
Hear, and learn from, a portion of God's Word
(II
Timothy 3:16 - 4:4, I Peter 1:23-25)
All preaching and teaching is based solely upon the Bible, which is our pattern and example for all that
we do.
